Gorham went on to purchase the majority of properties in the village and built the village club in 1924 for recreational purposes.Ambrose Gorham died in 1933 and bequeathed his property in trust, vested to the Brighton Corporation for retention in perpetuity in order to protect the village. In 1935, a charitable trust named ’Gorham's Gift’ was established by High Court order to preserve the rural characteristics of the village.
